Flying golf safari to South Africa's top championship courses

Golf and Game, by Air

South Africa is home to some of the finest golf courses on the planet — and many of them are set in landscapes where wildlife roams freely alongside the fairways. A flying golf safari combines these two experiences into a single itinerary, connecting championship courses by private aircraft so you spend your time playing and watching game rather than sitting in a car.

Angel Gabriel Aeronautics designs bespoke golf safari itineraries that cover multiple courses over several days, with game-viewing experiences woven between rounds. Fly from one course to the next in an hour or less, arriving fresh and ready to tee off instead of fatigued from a long road transfer.

South Africa's Premier Courses

Our golf safaris feature courses that consistently rank among the best in Africa and the world:

  • Leopard Creek Country Club — Located on the southern boundary of Kruger National Park near Malelane. Hippos in the water hazards, crocodiles along the Crocodile River, and elephant sightings from the fairway are not unusual. Regularly ranked as the top course in South Africa. A 55-minute flight from Lanseria.
  • Fancourt Golf Estate — Three championship courses in George on the Garden Route, including The Links, which has hosted the Presidents Cup. A private flight from Johannesburg takes approximately 1 hour 45 minutes, compared to a 12-hour drive or connecting commercial flights via Cape Town.
  • Gary Player Country Club, Sun City — Home of the Nedbank Golf Challenge, the “Africa's Major.” The Gary Player course is one of the most recognised championship layouts on the continent. Sun City is a 30-minute flight from Lanseria, making it an easy addition to any multi-course itinerary.
  • The Lost City Golf Course — Also at Sun City, this dramatic course features the famous crocodile pit at the 13th hole. A completely different challenge to the Gary Player course next door.
  • Pinnacle Point, Mossel Bay — A cliff-top course on the Garden Route with holes playing directly over the Indian Ocean. Accessible by charter flight to George or Mossel Bay airfield.
  • Pearl Valley, Franschhoek — A Jack Nicklaus Signature course set among the vineyards of the Cape Winelands. Combine golf with wine tasting for the perfect day.

Sample Itineraries

Every golf safari is tailored to your group, but these popular combinations illustrate what is possible:

The Classic Four-Day: Day 1 — Fly from Lanseria to Sun City. Round at the Gary Player Country Club. Overnight at Sun City. Day 2 — Morning round at The Lost City. Afternoon flight to Kruger. Check into safari lodge. Sunset game drive. Day 3 — Morning game drive and bush walk. Afternoon round at Leopard Creek. Overnight at lodge. Day 4 — Final morning game drive. Return flight to Johannesburg.

The Garden Route Extended: Five days covering Fancourt (The Links and Montagu courses), Pinnacle Point, and Pearl Valley, with a night or two at a private game reserve near the Garden Route for a change of pace. All inter-course transfers by private aircraft rather than the lengthy drives the Garden Route typically demands.

The Bush & Links: Three nights at a Kruger or Sabi Sands safari lodge with game drives morning and afternoon, followed by two rounds at Leopard Creek. The proximity of Leopard Creek to the southern Kruger boundary makes this combination seamless. Fly in, fly out, with everything in between handled by our team.

Why Fly Between Courses

South Africa's top golf courses are spread across a vast geography. Leopard Creek is in Mpumalanga, Fancourt is in the Western Cape, Sun City is in the North West Province, and Pearl Valley is in the Winelands. Driving between them would consume days. Flying reduces each transfer to an hour or less, turning what would be a two-week road trip into a compact, action-packed four to six day itinerary.

Private aviation also solves the golf bag logistics problem. Commercial carriers impose strict size and weight limits on golf bags, often requiring separate oversized baggage fees or dedicated cargo arrangements. On a charter, your bags go straight from your vehicle into the aircraft hold with no restrictions beyond the aircraft's overall payload capacity. No damage risk from conveyor belts, no waiting at oversized baggage collection, and no surcharges.

For Groups and Corporate Events

Golf safaris are a standout option for corporate groups, incentive travel, and special occasions. A group of eight to twelve golfers can charter a dedicated aircraft for the entire itinerary, creating a shared experience that builds from one destination to the next. We handle tee time bookings, accommodation, catering, and any additional activities the group wants to include.

For corporate clients, we can arrange competition scoring, prizes, branded merchandise, and event coordination at each venue. The combination of world-class golf, Big 5 wildlife, and the exclusivity of private air travel creates an event that participants remember.

Plan Your Golf Safari

Tell us which courses interest you, how many days you have, and how many players are in your group. We will design an itinerary that maximises playing time, includes game-viewing experiences, and connects everything by air. Our concierge team can also arrange restaurant reservations, wine tastings, spa treatments, and any other off-course experiences.

For a multi-destination safari experience without the golf focus, explore our flying safaris or safari packages. For standalone flights to golf destinations, our private charter service has you covered.
