Royal Malewane
Ultra-luxury safari in the Greater Kruger. Fly direct from Johannesburg in approximately one hour.

One of Africa's Finest Safari Lodges
Royal Malewane is an ultra-luxury safari lodge nestled within the Thornybush Private Nature Reserve in the Greater Kruger area of Limpopo Province. Consistently ranked among the top safari lodges on the African continent by Condé Nast Traveller and Travel + Leisure, it sets a standard that very few properties can match.
The lodge offers Big 5 traversing rights across the Thornybush reserve, which shares an unfenced boundary with the greater Kruger ecosystem. Wildlife density is exceptional, with leopard sightings a particular highlight. The combination of world-class guiding, pristine bushveld, and an extraordinarily high staff-to-guest ratio creates an experience that is as intimate as it is immersive.
The Property
The main lodge comprises six luxury suites, each with a private pool and sala. For guests seeking complete privacy, Africa House is a four-suite private villa with its own dedicated staff, game vehicle, and chef — ideal for families or small groups who want the lodge experience on entirely their own terms. The Farmstead offers another exclusive-use option for larger parties.
The Lamai Spa is frequently cited as one of the best bush spas in South Africa, offering treatments that draw on African botanicals in a setting that feels completely removed from the outside world. The lodge's cuisine is award-winning, with menus that change daily and make full use of locally sourced ingredients.
Getting There by Charter
Royal Malewane is approximately one hour by private charter flight from Johannesburg. We fly into Thornybush Airstrip, a private bush strip within the reserve itself, or into Hoedspruit Eastgate Airport (HDS), which is a 20–30 minute drive from the lodge. Thornybush Airstrip is the more direct option and is suitable for light aircraft including Cessna Caravans and King Airs.
On landing, the lodge's game vehicle meets you on the apron for a short transfer — often with wildlife sightings along the way. The return flight connects you back to Johannesburg in time for onward international or domestic connections.
